The title says it all. You should be able to get to the forum at http://www.horatians.org. Don't add the index.php.

Any recovered archives will be restored to a separate forum, where you'll be able to copy and paste for your own files.

Hi Horatians,

I spoke with Movie | Girl just now, and she is hard at work trying to get us up again. It will probably be a couple of days.

There was a DNS attack on the server on which the site was located. MG is going to move us to another server and try to reconstruct the database from backups. HOWEVER--it looks like we have lost significant data. Keep your fingers crossed, but do be prepared to have stuff missing when we are back up again.

MG asked me (repeatedly) to apologize for the downtime and the problems. On the bright side (and there is always a bright side): when we do come back we will be on a new server with the latest and most stable and robust server software, so it will be better. A little loss, but we will go on. Kind of like Horatio after being beat up by Simpson. ;-)

We will miss chat, of course, in the meantime, but the chatroom will be back as well.

Hang in there, and I'll keep everyone up to date here and on Facebook. I've asked MG to post links to both pages on the main horatians.org page, so hopefully the lost wanderers will make their way here.

I just got notified by Movie|Girl (Arwen) that horatians is down but she is working on it. I am going to be away from the net for a couple of days, so hopefully someone else will come and give you guys an update.

I wanted to check Horatians today - I check it at least once a day - and I just got a blue and orange screen with This account has been suspended in rather large letters. Link

Was it something I did? Has Horatians gone on the blink?? Don't people like me any more???

Anyone know anything about this?

Just letting everyone know that the hosting service is doing some maintenance on the horatians server so the site will be unavailable for a little while.

I'll let you know when we hear any more about it.

Update: We seem to be back up.

The registration deadline is fast approaching, so don't forget to make your mark by July 15th!!

This year's gathering is taking place in Mystic, Connecticut September 15-19.

The ship's officers have been hard at work planning lots of fun events including visits to Mystic Seaport, the Coast Guard Academy, and a sail on the Schooner Argia to mention a few. If that was not enough, an overnighter aboard the Seaport’s training ship, the Joseph Conrad is being offered as an extra option.

Be sure to check out the website for more information and hopefully we'll see you there.

Well, about me... I love Pellew best, with the pretty Mr. Bush being a close second. But the whole series is so filled with male attractiveness it's hard to choose. :D I'm a Royal Navy fan in general. Thank to a certain Mr. Melville whose dark tale dragged me into this.

Not sure if this is what you were experiencing,

shipotl, but I've been trying to get into Horatians today and every time I'm getting this message:

Failed to Connect

The connection was refused when attempting to contact www.horatians.org.
Though the site seems valid, the browser was unable to establish a connection.
* Could the site be temporarily unavailable? Try again later.
* Are you unable to browse other sites? Check the computer's network connection.
* Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.

My Internet connection is working fine; I'm able to browse any other site I have open, just not Horatians.

Registration is now open for the 2009 Hornblower convention!!

This year's gathering is taking place in Key West October 15-18.

Besides the usual Hornblower fun, it looks like the crew has lots of great activities planned, including visits to the Pirate Soul Museum, Hemingway's House and the Key West Lighthouse among others.

Hi all,

Finally this LJ n00b has figured out how to post here. How are you all doing? I seem to be suffering from Horatians withdrawal symptoms. I keep checking the url at least once every day only to find that daft GoDaddy page. Now it says the domain has expired or something, but no stress, I know our admin wizzes will salvage our beloved forum :D

In the meantime, I was planning to go to the tall ships races in Den Helder yesterday, but the weather was awful plus I was dreading to travel six hours in me onesies to see the ships I'd already seen (lovely though they were). The Seadov will have to wait ;) So no new pics I'm afraid! I think it would be fun if we have some fun here. Yeah, yeah, I would say half to 2/3rds only want to do Horatians stuff ON Horatians. It is like that old Crosby, Stills and Nash song - Love the One You're With. :D

I wanted to transfer the registration of the domain horatians.org away from GoDaddy because they piss me off in a million ways. (Not the least of which being they tried to take down one of my other domains with 24 hours notice ON CHRISTMAS for something a hacker did that I had no idea about. Thank Jane I have no life and was home and checked my e-mail. I was glad to learn about the hacking but holy fascists, Batman. Don't e-mail or call me and ask if I have a problem, though I've owned the damn domain for three years, just shut it down ON CHRISTMAS.) Anywho, Arwen and I transferred the domain to the registrar she uses, we did all the paperwork, transfer codes, etc. and thought everything went through. I paid to register it for two years and the transfer fee, we thought we were all set.

Well, everything went through and should have been okay except GoDaddy did not respond to the transfer request and it timed out, and then the domain expired today. Unfortunately all this happened while Arwen was away at a conference with no computer access so we all missed it. We just had a conference call with GoDaddy support and basically we have to initiate the transfer again, and then she will have to call them and harass them to actually let it go through.

All this should happen today or tomorrow at the latest, but unfortunately then we have to wait for the domain transfer to go through (up to 24 hours) and then for the domain name server, which points the domain at the proper server, to propagate throughout the internet. This can take up to three or four days.

DO NOT PANIC. I personally don't think it will take that long. But the way things are going pear-shaped, this might be the last revenge of GoDaddy to make it take forever to go through.

The server is fine, the site is still there, you just can't get at it using horatians.org. We tried using the direct server address but the forums don't work, since they're pointed at--guess what--horatians.org. *facepalm*

In the meantime, we can keep in touch here. I'm really sorry about the cockup. And don't use GoDaddy. I'll be transferring (OR TRYING TO) the rest of my domains away from them this year, I think.

... getting into horatians. Arwen is trying to isolate the issue and would like for you to do a little test. She is trying to determine if it is a security problem or a forum problem.

She went through the server looking for something amiss that would explain the pop up that some of you have experienced and could not find anything.
